Actor Riz Ahmed opened up on the physical complexities he went through for his role in the film Mogul Mowgli.
For those unaware, Riz essayed the role of a British-Pakistani rapper who battled a degenerative autoimmune illness for which he was required to lose 22 pounds.
In an interview with IndieWire, Riz said, “I lost [about 22 pounds] in three weeks. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I had a professional dietician working with me, but it was really grueling and took me emotionally to an intense place, which probably informed the movie. That was a big part of it, being in a place of weakness and fatigue and insatiable hunger.”
Riz further added, '''If you're in your head, you're dead.' I think that's true. Acting has to be in your body. Anything that brings you into your body centers you, and you can perform in that place.”
The film Mogul Mowgli was released in the USA on Friday after its release in October 2020 in the UK.
Riz was praised for his versatile performance in the film and according to some, his recent transformation did justice to his character.
