Country stars Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton are excited to share a stage at the 56th ceremony of the 2021 ACM Awards.
Black Like Me singer Mickey Guyton will become the first-ever black solo female songstress to host the Academy of Country Music Awards. This is a milestone getting covered, and co-host Keith Urban is here for it.
At last year’s award ceremony, the pair performed Mickey’s popular song What Are You Gonna Tell Her? Their performance was an instant hit.
While gushing about his co-host, Keith Urban said, “We got into rehearsals for that song, I don't really play the piano so I was kinda freaked out a bit, but she was great. She made it super easy."
The Blue Ain’t Your Color singer still reminisces over their show-stopping performance last year, and that is precisely why he is stoked to share the spotlight again this year with Mickey.
"The idea of doing it with Mickey was so natural for me because we played together on the show last year and we just hit it off," he told PEOPLE.
Mickey Guyton is also extremely excited as she recalled the first time she found out about their new gig via her co-host.
"I knew it was happening, but it doesn't matter. When Keith Urban calls your phone on FaceTime, you never really get over that. Or at least I don't."
The Academy of Country Music Awards will be aired at 8 p.m. ET on Global.
