The famous 20th-century novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald’s most popular work The Great Gatsby is set to be adapted as an animated feature film.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the Vikings creator Michael Hirst will adapt the famous novel into a television series. The Variety magazine has reported that the novel is also getting adapted as an animated feature film. This will be first-ever animated adaption of the novel, published in 1925.

The reports further said that the animated version will be helmed by author William Joyce and will be written by Brian Selznick. Michael Siegel and DNEG Senior VP Creative Production David Prescott (Tenet) are set to join Joyce as producers.

As Variety reported, talking about the upcoming project, Joyce said, "Gatsby continues to cast a powerful spell over readers unlike any other book in American letters. Much of the power of Gatsby comes from the enchantment of Fitzgerald's prose. He created a vivid dreamscape that, to some degree, has eluded filmmakers since the silent era. The previous film versions were constrained by live-action, but innovative animation could finally realize the elusive quality of the novel."

The most recent cinematic adaptation was for Baz Luhrmann's 2013 film starring actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Toby Maguire in lead roles.
