Dior backs Johnny Depp after he loss 'wife-beater' libel lawsuit

A Dior cologne commercial featured Johnny Depp sparked controversy after it was broadcast in the UK on Tuesday.

As reported by The Guardian, the luxury brand Dior continued to back the actor after he lost his libel case against The Sun.

Depp was featured in an ad for the brand's Sauvage cologne. Dior suggested that he will remain as the face of the fragrance. Depp has been the face of the French luxury brand's cologne since 2015 and has starred in a number of ad spots for the Dior fragrance line.

A spokesperson for the UK's Advertising Standards Authority told The Guardian that after Depp's Dior ad was aired, it received 11 complaints from viewers that criticized Depp's place in the ad in light of his recent legal case. Fans of Depp continued to support him as they saw Dior's latest commercial

In early November, the Tourist actor lost a high-profile libel case against publishers of The Sun over a 2018 article that described him as a "wife beater."

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor came under negative spotlight, when actress Amber Heard filed for divorce in 2016 and alleged Depp had physically abused and tortured her throughout their relationship. Depp denied the allegations and their divorce was finalized in 2017.Depp have been overthrown from Fantastic Beasts 3 franchise by Warner Bros.
