Kristen Stewart on only gay actors playing gay characters: ‘It’s a grey area’

Hollywood actress Kristen Stewart has recently commented on the on-going debate of the town that only gay actors should be playing gay characters in the films and series. To which, the Twilight star said that it is a grey area.

In her latest interview with Variety, the 31-year-old actress said that she doesn’t like the idea of actors telling stories that “really should be told by somebody who’s lived that experience”, she also believes that it can be a “slippery slope”.

Kristen was latest seen in the 2020 releaseHappiest Season, oppositeMackenzie Davis. The film revolves around the story of a young woman with a plan to propose to her girlfriend while at her family's annual holiday party discovers her partner hasn't yet come out to her conservative parents.

Kristen, who is openly bisexual, is currently dating her longtime girlfriend Dylan Meyer, insisted that telling straight actors not to play LGBTQ characters means that I should never play another straight character, and said, “the emphasis should be on making sure Hollywood has its “finger on the pulse” to find the stories that need to be told.”

The Charlie’s Angels star further said, "I think about this all the time. Being somebody who has had so much access to work, I've just lived with such a creative abundance. You know, a young white girl who was straight and only really was gay later and is, like, skinny—do you know what I'm saying? I do acknowledge that I've just gotten to work."

The Underwater actress was in relationship with Twilight actor Robert Pattinson for a long period of time, she acknowledged the fact that she doesn't necessarily see the issue as black-and-white.
