The popular reality dating show on Netflix The Indian Matchmaking gained its popularity weeks after its release, when people started commenting on one of the eight people featured on the show Aparna Shewakramani for her bold comments.

This election season in the US, Aparna has encouraged her followers on Instagram to step out and vote for the better future of the country.

The 35-year-old lawyer from Houston shared a photo with her mother on the platform with her 55.5k followers. She captioned the photo, “To all the aunties, present and future, let’s VOTE for those who came before us - those women who paved the way as immigrants and dream seekers and glass ceiling breakers. A vote for Aunty is a vote for all of us. Here’s to the next four years of empathy, unity and leadership with kamalaharris and joebiden”.

Aparna urged her followers to vote for the Democrats party presidential candidate Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris for the vice president in the election.

The eight-part docuseries featured elite Indian matchmaker Sima Taparia as she goes about trying to find suitable matches for her wealthy clients in India and the US.

The lawyer gained popularity and divided opinions with her straight-talking manner and hard-to-please attitude, but Aparna said that there was more to her story that viewers never got a chance to see. Lawyer by profession, Aparna is the owner of a travel company My Golden Balloon.
