Coco Lee is no more.

Singer-songwriter Coco Lee, who was born in Hong Kong, passed away at the age of 48. She had a 30-year career, during which she acted as Mulan's voice actress in the Mandarin-language adaptation of Disney's "Mulan."

Coco attempted suicide at home on Sunday, according to a statement posted on Facebook and Instagram by Carol and Nancy Lee, Lee's sisters. Since then, she had been unconscious, in a coma, and on Wednesday in Hong Kong's Queen Mary Hospital, she passed away.

"With great sadness, we are here [to] break the most devastating news: Coco had been suffering from depression for a few years, but her condition deteriorated drastically over the last few months," the sisters said.

"Although Coco sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her."

Lee, who received her education in both Hong Kong and the United States, found popularity in the Mandopop (Mandarin-language pop) scene in Hong Kong in the 1990s before branching out into Cantonese and English.

"Coco is also known to have worked tirelessly to open up a new world for Chinese singers in the international music scene, and she went all out to shine for the Chinese," the sisters said.

Lee was a dynamic live performer who frequently made her way to the news. She wed the rich Canadian businessman Bruce Rockowitz in 2011, and the luxurious ceremony was one of the year's main highlights. Rockowitz is the former CEO of Li & Fung, a Hong Kong-based provider of supply chains.
