Kate Winslet remembers how ‘horrible’ she felt after negative comments about her body
Kate Winslet faced bullying.
Following the severe and unrelenting media attention focused on her physique following the release of Titanic, Kate Winslet disclosed that she was left inconsolable.
Kate portrayed Rose, the female lead in the James Cameron-directed romantic historical drama, who was courted by Leonardo DiCaprio's endearing rogue Jack on the sinking cruise ship.
When Titanic debuted in theatres, the British actress, then 22 years old, and Leo immediately rose to fame. Titanic went on to become one of the most financially successful films of all time.
However, Kate claimed she was "vilified" for appearing in the movie, and the unfavourable press she received at the time permanently altered her.
In a recent interview, the 47-year-old said she "absolutely learned how to look after myself the hard way" because of the criticism she faced for having a perfectly normal figure.
“What I really remember vividly is that when I did Titanic and was so thrust into the public eye, I was shocked and horrified by how vilified I was by mainstream media,” Kate explained.
Even if it "doesn't happen" anymore, she claimed, the "nasty sh*t" that people post about celebrities on social media still irks her.
Kate, however, thinks that the dreadful pieces regarding women's bodies in the media have significantly decreased.
“But mainstream media behaving in these really irresponsible damaging ways – I do think that has actually stopped,” she added.
