Skepta recently spoke to GQ about his thoughts on the Met Gala 2023.
He described how he wanted to create a look that celebrated British fashion heritage while also keeping it fresh and modern.
He explained that he chose to wear a Burberry trench coat as a nod to the brand's iconic outerwear, but added his own twist by pairing it with a neon green turtleneck and a chunky gold chain.
The British rapper also revealed that he drew inspiration from Burberry's signature check pattern, which he incorporated into his look through a pair of checkered trousers.
However, he emphasized that he wanted to avoid looking too matchy-matchy, so he kept the rest of his outfit relatively understated.
Despite his excitement for the event, he admitted that he was unsure about what to expect.
"I've always seen it online, and it's always intrigued me," he stated while dialing in from the back of a yellow taxi.
The rapper also shared that the lead-up to the event had been hectic, with little time for rest.
"I've just landed at the airport, I've had literally 15 minutes of sleep as I was doing a set at Koko in Camden last night," he explained.
Skepta's schedule for the evening included a final fitting at Burberry's NYC war room, where he was styled in one of designer Daniel Lee's red carpet creations.
While he has never been particularly interested in attending the Met Gala before, he was intrigued by Lee's invitation.
"I've never really thought about going to the Met Gala before, and to be totally honest I've never really made an effort to go.
But when Daniel Lee, who I really respect, invited me, it just made sense to me to take him up on the offer," he revealed.
