Gwyneth Paltrow is facing a lawsuit against a retired optometrist who has accused her of "violently crashing" into him during a ski accident in Utah in 2016.

The claim was disparaged by the actress’s lawyer who called it "utter BS".

According to documents, the dispute, which took place more than seven years ago, saw Paltrow and the victim Terry Sanderson crash into each other in a ski resort.

Sanderson’s attorneys claimed that the collision resulted in severe injuries.

"It’s the uphill skiers’ responsibility to yield the right of way to the people below … especially on a beginner run," said attorney Robert Sykes.

"They know skiers may be less experienced and that skiers below them trust that the ones coming behind are paying attention."

According to NBC, the trial began in Park City courtroom with judge Kent R Holmberg along with a four-man, six-woman jury.

"Gwyneth Paltrow skied out of control,” Sanderson’s attorneys stated in their lawsuit, "knocking him down hard, knocking him out, and causing a brain injury, four broken ribs and other serious injuries. Paltrow got up, turned and skied away, leaving Sanderson stunned, lying in the snow, seriously injured."

Saderson is seeking $300,000 in damages from the accident, which he claimed left him physically harmed and emotionally distressed.

The case is expected to determine who was at fault for the collision.

Both have alleged that they were further downhill and that by default were not in a position to cause harm.

Paltrow has countersued for $1m in damages as well as demanding attorney’s fees.

She claimed that Sanderson was the one to blame for the "full body blow".

The Goopfounder has accused him of exaggerating the extent of his wounds in a bid to exploit her fame and wealth.
