The YA show is the reboot of the original CW series of the same name
The Gossip Girl reboot is among the many canceled shows in the HBO Max latest spree.
The show, which is the reboot of the original CW series of the same name, will not return for its third season, announced its creator Joshua Safran.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce Gossip Girl will not be continuing on HBO Max,” Safran said in a message to fans Thursday. “Thank you for watching, and I hope you’ll tune into the finale next Thursday to see how it all comes together. xoxo”
The streaming platform also released a statement, expressing its gratitude to the core crew of the show.
“We are very grateful to showrunner/executive producer Joshua Safran, and executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz for bringing us back to the Upper East Side and all the scandals at Constance Billard.
“Although we are not moving forward with a third season of Gossip Girl, we thank them for the enticing love triangles, calculated backstabbing, and impeccable fashion this series brought to a new audience,” they said.
The actual reason behind HBO’s decision is not known, however, it could be due to the less-than-satisfactory feedback it has garnered since its beginning in 2021.
