A giant goldfish caught that weighed about 70 pounds was captured by an angler. Her large belly earned her the moniker "a monster" from some social media users, while others compared her to "a big lump of gold" or a flame-coloured beauty.

The goldfish, known lovingly as "Carrot," was caught by British angler Andy Hackett at Bluewater Lakes in Champagne, France, earlier this month. On Tuesday, British media outlets went all-out for the story, turning it into a bit of a celebrity.

Given that images of Hackett holding up his catch with both hands made headlines in Britain, tabloids there are referring to Carrot, a hybrid species of leather carp and koi carp, as one of the largest goldfish in the world.

In their opening paragraphs, the Daily Mail and BBC both made mention of the 1975 shark thriller "Jaws," with the headline shrieking, "We’re gonna need a bigger fish bowl!"

"I always knew the Carrot was in there but never thought I would catch it," Hackett told British media.

"I knew it was a big fish when it took my bait and went off side to side and up and down with it."

She was returned to the sea after being photographed by Hackett with his catch, much to the delight of many who had been following her story online.
