Donald Trump's Twitter account has been restored after poll results on Twitter
Former President Donald Trump returned to Twitter Saturday night, roughly two years after the platform indefinitely reprimanded him following a violent unrest at the United States Capitol in which his advocates tried to storm the building as lawmakers tallied the Electoral College votes certifying President-elect Joe Biden's November election victory.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk said Trump's account would be restored as a result of a Twitter vote he started.
"The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei," Musk tweeted. Trump's account was live shortly thereafter.
Trump, 76, has returned to the platform only a few weeks after Musk's official acquisition of Twitter.
Earlier in May, the 51-year-old Tesla CEO declared that if his then-planned takeover of the platform went through, he would lift the lifetime ban on Donald Trump.
"Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really reserved for accounts that are bots, or scam, spam accounts … I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump," Musk said at a conference, as perCNBC report.
"I think that was a mistake, because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice."
