Jeff Goldblum to play the Wizard in Jon M. Chu’s latest 'Wicked' movies
Jeff Goldblum is en route to play the Wizard in Jon M. Chu’s upcoming Wicked movies, that will be releasing on consecutive years.
On October 28, Variety reported thatPrimetime Emmy nominee, Jeff Goldblum, is in final talks with the producers to play the role of the Wizard in both the Wicked movies.
The outlet also broke the news earlier that Bridgerton starJonathan Bailey will be playing the character ofFiyero in the movies.
Directed byJon M. Chu, the two-part feature adaptation is lead byAriana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.
Wicked is the prequel of The Wizard of Oz, narrating the story of howElphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.
Chu in a statement on why they decided to make two parts of the movie explained, "We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one ‘Wicked’ movie but two!"
He continued, "With more space, we can tell the story of ‘Wicked’ as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters."
The Universal Pictures films will be released on the Christmas of 2024 and 2025 separately.
