'Berlin' will shine light on the sharp and epicurean mind of Andrés de Fonollosa, the jewel thief from 'Money Heist'

Pedro Alonso roped in to play Berlin for 'Money Heist' prequel

Netflix has shifted the veil from the Money Heist spinoff series Berlin, which will start production soon.

In an event on September 28, in Madrid, Money Heist creators said that the idea of the prequel series was to take Pedro Alonso’s Berlin’s character, "the most sparkling personality" of the original Money Heist, and place it in a different universe.

They further said that they "loved the idea of introducing a new gang around Berlin in a completely different emotional state."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pedro Alonso, who plays the epicurean and quick-witted jewel thief Andrés de Fonollosa, aka Berlin, in the original series, will reprise his role in the new prequel series.

The series will follow the out-of-the-ordinary heists that Berlin and his gang carry out before the events of Money Heist.

The other cast include Michelle Jenner (Isabel) as Keila, an electronics specialist; Tristán Ulloa (Fariña) as Berlin’s confidant and philanthropic professor Damián; Begoña Vargas (Welcome to Eden) as Cameron; Julio Peña Fernández (Through My Window) as Roi; and Joel Sánchez as Bruce.

The first season, consisting of eight episodes, is written by Lobato and Pina along with David Oliva and David Barrocal.

Berlin is directed by Albert Pintó, Barrocal, and Geoffrey Cowper who will be shooting in Paris and Madrid for several weeks. The shooting is set to begin in Paris on October 3.
