American director-writer Quentin Tarantino revealed he absolutely “loved” Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, which is a sequel to his 1986 film of the same name.
In an interview on the ReelBlend podcast, the Pulp Fiction director said he thought the film was “fantastic.”
"I [expletive] love Top Gun: Maverick. I thought it was fantastic," Tarantino said. "I saw it at the theatres.”
He revealed he also watched Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and both the movies provided him with a “true cinematic spectacle” that he thought he couldn’t get anymore.
“It was fantastic," he gushed.
Tarantino said that the Top Gun sequel will be the closest to a Tony Scott film audiences will ever see after he passed away in 2012.
Scott directed the original Top Gun movie.
"There was just this lovely, lovely aspect because I love both Tony Scott’s cinema so much and I love Tony so much that that’s as close as we’re ever going to get to seeing one more Tony Scott movie," Tarantino said.
The filmmaker also sang praises for Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski noting they preserved the essence of Tony in the movie.
"Director Joseph Kosinski did a great job. The respect and the love of Tony was in every frame. It was almost in every decision. It was consciously right there, but in this really cool way that was really respectful. And I think it was in every decision Tom [Cruise] made on the film."
