Kevin Spacey to pay over $30M to House of Cards creators, judge rules

The court has ordered Kevin Spacey to pay over $30 million to the creators of House of Cards to compensate for the damages in the light of his controversy.

On Thursday, the ruling from Los Angeles Superior Court Judge demanded Spacey and his production companies pay the amount of $30.9 million to the show's makers because of losses brought on by his 2017 firing for the sexual harassment of crew members.

The judge wrote that Spacey and his attorneys "fail to demonstrate that this is even a close case" and "do not demonstrate that the damages award was so utterly irrational that it amounts to an arbitrary remaking of the parties' contracts."

According to the court documents, MRC–the production company for the Netflix hit–had to halt production of the show’s sixth season following the sexual assault charges on the actor, rewrite it to remove Spacey's central character, and shorten it from 13 to eight episodes to meet deadlines.

All the amendments eventually resulted in tens of millions in losses.
