Warden Wayne, starring in Spider-Man: Lotus fan film, publicly apologizes for his past homophobic and racist comments.
Lead actor and star of the upcoming Spiderman fan-made movie Warden Wayne owned up his controversial comments in his recent post.
Wayne took it to his Twitter to post a long public apology for using racist and homophobic language in the past.
Days ago, screenshots of the actor making racist and homophobic remarks surfaced online. The incident occurred sometime after the trailer for a fan-made film, Spiderman: Lotus was released.
"Years ago when I was in high school, I used to say terrible things. I used offensive language, often homophobic or racially insensitive, casually or in jokes. I am sorry, and I'm ashamed," The actor wrote in his public statement.
Wayne explained that his ideas of right and wrong were "skewed" as a result of his upbringing in a conservative environment. He said that his family values were "pushed onto [him]" and that he was not aware of the consequences of using derogatory words.
He also owned up to being previously associated with friends who "encouraged and perpetuated these habits."
"I had convinced myself that it wasn’t wrong for me to say because of the justification I was constantly persuaded to believe," he said. "And I was never held accountable for it."
The resurfaced comments made by Wayne were from private social media conversations where he seemingly repeatedly used racist and homophobic language.
"Those messages that were leaked are from years ago. I know I'm not that person anymore. The internet won't believe me but I can't make anyone do anything about that. I know who I am, and I'm not the person I was in high school." Wayne added, "I spend every day trying to be good and to be better
