Harris pledged to ' support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic'
Kamala Harris stood strong as the first female vice president in the history of the United States. Coming from African and South Asian origins, Harris also is honored as the first mixed-race American to take charge.
With her hand on the Bible held by her husband, Doug Emhoff, Harris swore to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic."
“We not only dream, we do. We not only see what has been, we see what can be,” Harris said, of Americans. “We shoot for the moon and then we plant our flag on it. We are bold, fearless, and ambitious.”
“We are undaunted in our belief that we shall overcome, that we will rise up,” she added.
In an earlier Instagram post before Harris took charge, the Vice President paid a special tribute to her epitome of courage president Joe Biden.
"When JoeBiden asked me to join him as his Vice President, saying yes was an easy decision," she wrote on Instagram. "While I first knew Joe as Vice President, I really got to know him as the father who loved my dear friend, the late Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden. As attorneys general during the financial crisis, Beau and I were leaders in the fight to take on our nation’s biggest banks and secure billions of dollars in relief for homeowners across our country. And I can tell you that Beau inherited his strength of character and commitment to public service from his father."
